Angkor Thom( literally: “Great City”), located in Cambodia, was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. Most of the great Angkor ruins reflect ancient Hinduism, the prevalent religion in the late 12th century. Over the centuries Buddhism became dominant in the region and today the temples of Angkor Thom are overseen by Buddhist monks. The presence of the monks in their traditional robes within the centuries old temples lies in stark contrast with the one item none of us seem to be able to do without – the smart phone.
