The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications running  east / west for 8,851.8 km through the entire northern part of China. Building began around the 7th century BCE originally to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against military incursions by various warlike peoples.  Today it is being invaded by hordes of tourists, some of whom are also warlike in nature.
