Due to the unique continuity of its occupation from the Neolithic period through the Persian period, and the scope of its excavations, Tel Megiddo is considered the “cradle” of biblical archaeology. Over the many years that the site has been excavated, workers snacked on dates and discarded the pits. Many of these pits germinated and now full grown date palms add greenery to an otherwise stark site.
