AJANTA CAVES
The city of Aurangabad is known for the caves at Ajanta which are a superb example of India’s finest artistic treasures. The Ajanta Caves were discovered in 1819 by a British hunting party and their isolation contributed to the fine state of preservation in which some of the paintings of over 2000 years old remain to this day. The paintings depict scenes from the life of Buddha and Buddhist fables.
